Percentage change alerts, sized from real volatility
A percentage alert notifies you when an asset moves more than a chosen percentage over a window, in either direction, without you naming a price. In CoinPriceAlert the free plan includes 24-hour percentage alerts on any asset; Pro adds 1-hour pump alerts. The right threshold comes from the asset's own volatility: Bitcoin moved about 1.25% on a typical day last year, so a 2% alert fires constantly and a 5% alert fired about 1.3 times a month.

Close-to-close moves from Binance daily candles over the last year. A "firing" is a day whose move exceeded the threshold, which is exactly what a 24-hour percentage alert measures. Highlighted: the tightest threshold that still fired three times a month or fewer. 365 trading days measured; updated 11 September 2026.
Percentage alert versus price alert
A price alert answers "tell me when it reaches this level". A percentage alert answers "tell me when something unusual happens", without you predicting where. They are not substitutes. A holder with a level in mind wants the first; anyone who wants to know about a surprise, in either direction, wants the second. Most people should run one of each on the assets they care about, and nothing on the ones they do not.
The mistake is the threshold. Set it inside the asset's normal daily range and it fires most days, you stop reading it, and the one that mattered gets dismissed with the rest. Bitcoin moved about 1.25% on a typical day over the last year and more than 3.58% on one day in ten. A 2% alert is noise. A 5% alert fired about 1.3 times a month, which is where an alert stays worth opening.
Reading the table
Each row is a coin; each column is how often a threshold would have fired per month over the last year. Find the row for your coin, then the first column where the number is three or lower: that is your threshold. Dogecoin needs a much wider one than Bitcoin, which is the point of measuring rather than guessing. The same numbers appear on every coin page as the alert planner, and the threshold calculator lets you compare twelve assets side by side.
24-hour alerts and 1-hour pump alerts
The 24-hour window is the default and the one most holders should use; it matches how daily candles are measured and it filters out intraday noise. Pro adds a 1-hour window, which catches a pump or a flush while it is happening rather than at the end of the day. That is for people who act on short moves; for everyone else it is a way to get more notifications, which is the opposite of the goal.
Outside crypto
The same alert type works on stocks, metals and forex in the app, and the thresholds must be recalibrated for each. Gold moves under 1% on a typical day; EUR/USD moves a third of a percent; Apple sits between them. The market pages linked below carry the measured numbers for each.
Three alerts worth setting
- Bitcoin moves 5% in 24 hours
- Ethereum moves 8% in 24 hours
- Solana moves 5% in 1 hour (Pro pump alert)

Frequently asked questions
What is a percentage alert?
A notification that fires when an asset moves more than a chosen percentage over a window, in either direction, measured from the price at the start of the window. It catches surprises without you naming a price.
What percentage should I set for Bitcoin?
From the last year of daily closes, Bitcoin moved about 1.25% on a typical day and more than 3.58% on one day in ten. A 5% alert fired about 1.3 times a month, which is the range most holders should use.
Does it fire on the way down as well as up?
Yes. The alert measures the size of the move, not its direction, so a fall of the chosen size fires it just as a rise does.
Is the 1-hour alert free?
No. The 24-hour percentage alert is on every plan including free; the 1-hour pump alert is a Pro feature at $2.99 a month.
Can I set a percentage alert on gold or a stock?
Yes, on every asset in the app. Use the measured numbers on the gold, oil, forex and stocks pages to size it, because each market moves very differently from crypto.
