Crypto price alerts, set from how coins actually move

By , developer of CoinPriceAlert · Numbers updated 27 October 2026

Short answer

Bitcoin moved 1.19% on a typical day over the last year, so a 5% alert fired about 1.4 times a month. CoinPriceAlert sends crypto price alerts as push notifications or Telegram messages, free for up to 3 active alerts: a price level, a percentage move, a trailing stop, a volume spike or an RSI crossing, re-checked every 5 seconds on our servers — with the app closed, and with a loud alarm option that plays through Do Not Disturb.

Close-to-close moves over the last year. A "firing" is a day whose move exceeded the threshold. Highlighted: the tightest threshold that still fired three times a month or fewer. 365 trading days measured; updated 27 October 2026.

What threshold a crypto alert should use

This is the question every alert app leaves you to guess at. Bitcoin moved about 1.19% on a typical day over the last year and more than 3.53% on one day in ten. A 1% alert therefore fires most days and trains you to swipe it away; a 5% alert fired roughly 1.4 times a month, which is rare enough that you still open it. The table above is recomputed hourly from real closes, so it reflects the regime the market is in now rather than a number from a textbook.

Altcoins need wider thresholds than Bitcoin, not the same one. Solana and most large caps move noticeably more on a typical day, so a threshold that is rare for Bitcoin is routine for them — which is exactly how a useful alert turns into noise you ignore.

Five kinds of crypto alert, and when each earns its place

A price alert is the obvious one: you name a level and we watch it. A percentage alert is better when you care about a move rather than a number, and it can measure over an hour or a day. A trailing stop follows a coin up and only fires on the way back down, so a winner keeps running and you still hear about the reversal — almost nothing else in this category offers it. A volume alert fires when a coin trades two, three or five times its usual volume, which is often the first sign something is happening, before the price shows it. An RSI alert tells you when a coin crosses into overbought or oversold.

Repeat alerts behave the way people expect and most apps get wrong. An alert at $0.16 fires once, stays quiet while the price runs to $0.20, and fires again only after the price crosses back down and crosses $0.16 again — not every hour while the price sits above the line. Switch on rebasing and each new alert measures from where the last one fired, so "every further 10%" means exactly that.

Why crypto alerts stop working, and how this app handles it

The most common complaint about every alert app in this category is the same: the alerts quietly stopped and nobody said anything. It is almost never the alert engine. It is a link further down the chain — notification permission revoked months later, a push token the provider retired, battery optimisation holding notifications back on Android — and each of those fails silently, so you find out by missing a trade.

This app checks the whole chain and tells you which link is broken, with a one-tap fix beside it. You can also see exactly when our servers last checked your alerts, down to the second. That is a strange thing for an app to show you, and it exists because the alternative is silence that is indistinguishable from a broken service.

How to set a crypto price alert

Open the app, search for a coin, and tap the bell on its row — or open the coin and use Set price alert. Choose a price, a percentage, a trailing stop, a volume multiple or an RSI level, pick push, Telegram or both, and optionally a quiet window so nothing wakes you at 3am. No account is required to start; add an email later only if you want your alerts to follow you to a new phone.

Alerts are evaluated on our servers from that moment on, whether the app is open, closed or swiped away. Add the home screen widget to keep up to six coins in view without opening anything at all.

A crypto alert app versus exchange alerts

Binance, Coinbase and Kraken all offer price alerts, and they are free and reliable — for coins listed on that exchange, delivered to that exchange app. If you hold across several venues, or watch coins your exchange does not list, you end up with alerts in three apps and no single list. This app watches the market quote for more than a thousand coins regardless of where you trade, and puts stocks, gold and forex in the same watchlist. It also never asks for an exchange key, a wallet connection or a payment method to watch a price, because watching a price does not require any of them.

Frequently asked questions

Are crypto price alerts free?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 active alerts across every market, price and percentage alert types, the home screen widget and the daily digest, delivered by push or Telegram, with no card required. Pro removes the alert limit and adds trailing stop, volume and RSI alerts.

Do crypto alerts work when the app is closed?

Yes. Every alert is evaluated on our servers against a live price feed, typically firing about a second after the price is hit — whether the app is open, closed or swiped away. The app shows you when the servers last checked, so you never have to take that on trust.

What percentage should a Bitcoin alert use?

Work from the table on this page. Bitcoin moved about 1.19% on a typical day over the last year and more than 3.53% on one day in ten, so a 5% alert, which fired about 1.4 times a month, is where most people should start. Altcoins need a wider threshold than Bitcoin.

Can I get an alert that follows the price up?

Yes — a trailing stop. You set a percentage, and the alert follows the coin up on every new high, firing only when it falls that far from its peak. It is the alert for a position you are happy to let run but do not want to give back.

Will a crypto alert wake me up?

It can. There is an alarm sound that plays for 28 seconds on a channel that cuts through Do Not Disturb, for the alerts that genuinely matter. Quiet hours mute everything else overnight, and those alerts still wait for you in Activity.

Which coins are supported?

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin and more than a thousand others, plus US and Indian stocks, gold, silver, oil, gas and the major forex pairs — all in the same watchlist.
